I’ve written at length about repeatable, scripted, short-form series (Subway Takes, The Ick, InStyle’s The Intern, Brooklyn Coffee Shop etc. I love them because:
They are fun to watch and I like fun things to watch in a world of not so fun things to watch.
They present a massive opportunity for creatives, writers, actors, directors, brands and people looking to break into Entertainment. The 54 year old writer at every traditional trade will tell you Hollywood is dead, but completely disregard the scalability of these series, jobs they are creating, and revenue they are generating.
Because we (AvA) are making one… more on that soon.
🔗 Click below for one of the best websites I’ve ever seen that highlights a bunch of them:

1) ByteDance backtracks on their new AI tool after receiving cease and desist letters from major Hollywood studios.
Their tool Seedance 2.0 was ripping IP left and right from studios (remember that dumb ass Brad Pitt vs. Tom Cruise AI-created fight) and the studios got mad.. uh rightfully so? Now ByteDance is putting “guardrails” on their tech. Too little too late.
“[ByteDance] respects intellectual property rights and we have heard the concerns regarding Seedance 2.0. We are taking steps to strengthen current safeguards as we work to prevent the unauthorized use of intellectual property and likeness by users.”
2) Warner Bros. Discovery has reopened talks with their ex-lover Paramount (Skydance)
There has been more drama in this timeline than an episode of Love Island. The WBD Board is now ‘seeking clarity’ on Paramount Skydance’s best offer after they launched a last-minute bid. I have a frightened hunch Billionaire David Ellison is going to end up beating out Netflix with a stupid offer when the board votes on March 20, which would be a real underdog feel good win for the little guys (billionaires)…
3) Sony has reportedly developed their own AI detection tool
The currently unnamed tool will be applicable to film, music, and gaming, and will likely be something we see a lot more of across all major labels. There is and will be a MASSIVE market for building tools to detect AI usage across various types of creative.
4) Viva La Mexico (please come film here)
Mexico launched a 30% tax incentive to support local cinema and to attract international productions. Spending requirements to qualify.
Live-Action/Animated Films or TV Series Episodes: $2.3 million USD
Documentary Feature Films: $1.2 million USD
Animation/WFX/Post-Production Processes: $290,000 USD
5) The NBA All-Star Game hit a 15-year high in viewership with a move to NBC.
Translation: people still care about sports even if the players aren’t trying.

Every week we drop our favorite podcast & book recs.
Today, we have Kelly Rowland on House Guest with Scott Evans. The two talk about her film Relationship Goals on Amazon and what it's like to be in projects at that scale.
This is a great watch or listen for anyone who wants to understand what it's like to be a solo artist with tens of millions of records sold and to dive deep into launching big projects across genres and mediums. (Also hint some new music coming soon.)
Another amazing conversation facilitated by the team at Central Talent Booking.
