🧠 Thought of the week: Proximity is the single biggest predictor of who gets lucky in their career
The things in your control:
The people you surround yourself with (your network)
The boss(es) you choose to work for: learning how they operate, earning their trust, getting access to their world
The events, shows, panels, coffees etc. you don't bail on last minute because (insert generic excuse here). No email thread can build trust like one real face-to-face convo

🧠 Focus less on your title or chasing a bonus / 5% raise, and more on the rooms you’re in and the people you surround yourself with. Especially early in your career
🧠 You increase your odds of getting lucky by being in the right places, around the right people, and actually showing up consistently. Showing up more = higher probability of chance encounters. People make their own luck.

1) Casey Wasserman is selling his namesake agency Wasserman..
..and allegedly blaming rival agencies for blowing up the story to poach his clients. He is notably staying on as chairman of the 2028 LA Olympics. Here is his company-wide email sent late Friday night we obtained:
2) Sony Pictures TV is offering executive buyouts to areas identified to have ‘less growth potential’
3) SAG-AFTRA & the major studios end the first week of contract talks with… *cricket noises*
Both parties have declined to comment on the progress so far because they have been partaking in a ‘media blackout’ as per a prior agreement. The main topics this time around are for health and pension plans, as well as AI (you don’t say!) and residuals. Will keep you posted on how this one turns out.

5) Good news for anyone job searching right now:
There were 130k+ jobs filled in January of this year, and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.3%. Labor force participation for workers aged 25 to 54 climbed to 84.1%, the highest level since 2001, and wages also increased by 3.7% year over year. Paramount Skydance enlists Trump’s former White House Lawyer & DOJ Antitrust Official as their new Head of Global Public Policy.
Ray Romano has signed with WME for representation in all areas, leaving CAA behind.
Julia Buchwald has been named CEO and president of Buchwald, stepping up after founder Don Buchwald’s death in 2024. Ryan Martin, who joined in 2019 after 17 years at APA, becomes co president.
