The Cannes Film Festival = uncomfortably long standing ovations. Here are some of the most notable applause-based statistics from this year’s festival:

• Tom Cruise’s Cannes debut with ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning’ reeled in around 5.5 minutes.

• Shia LeBeouf’s film ‘Slauson Rec’ received the lowest amount of applause, sitting at 2 minutes.

• The longest ovation clocked around 7-8 minutes, and was split somewhere between Pedro Pascal & Co. for ‘Pillion,’ Dakota Johnson’s ‘Splitsville,’ Jennifer Lawrence & Robert Pattinson’s ‘Die My Love,’ and Wes Anderson’s ‘The Phoenician Scheme’s.’

Denzel Washington received an honorary Palme D’or. This was the actor’s first time attending the festival in his 50 years of working, and he was there for the release of his film with Spike Lee, ‘Highest 2 Lowest.’ He also got into a tiff with a over-zealous photographer. Can we uhh stop invading the personal space of celebrities please?

‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ tops box office with a franchise record. Despite ‘Final Destination’ having debuted nearly 25 years ago, actress Kaitlyn Santa Juana led the way to the best domestic opening in their history with $51.7 million. I’m not going to say it was because their cast & I surprised Innovative Artists assistants with lunch, but I’m also not not going to say it.

Morgan Wallen shattered records across multiple streaming platforms. ‘I’m The Problem’ was the most streamed country album on Spotify in 2025 so far by first day streams, and it broke the record for the most streamed country record in its first day on Amazon Music.

James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader, was brought to Fortnite with AI. The actor previously agreed to allow archival recordings of him to be used before he passed in 2024, and in this case, players can talk to him directly and they will get unique responses. (No news yet on when I can get an AI voice to replicate me whenever my boss calls me after work hours with a “quick ask,”)

In related news, Spain’s film industry is experimenting with AI. After becoming one of the first countries in Europe to draft a law concerning the use of AI, some Spanish filmmakers are exploring the tool with caution. Paco Torres, a film and commercial director, shared that "we need to embrace it, but it cannot replace art."
