(Probably) my search history before my first day in the mailroom at WME:
The power of IRL & experiential has never been more important in a world obsessed with AI.
Range Sports just bought Superfly, the brains behind Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and a bunch of major music & comedy events, and will launch a new live division.
Quick rewind. Range Sports sits under Range Media Partners, a management, production, and brand/IP company that essentially operates like an agency in practice, but legally, they identify as management. Though the 3-letter giant Creative Artists Agency (CAA) might have some thoughts on that, given the very public split and ongoing lawsuit.
Back to Superfly. Range Sports has made six major acquisitions in the last three years, quietly turning them a legit power player in the Entertainment game (player is a compliment here). While Outside Lands is notably left out of the deal, Superfly gives Range something way more valuable: the ability to turn client’s IP into real world experiences, and turn experiences back into more IP.
This is also more proof that careers in Entertainment are going full cross-vertical. Remember when boomers used to tell you that a jack-of-all-trades is a master of none. HA.
Sports, music, brands, events, creators etc. are all melting into one giant ecosystem. And that’s exciting for anyone pursuing what is seen as a more “traditional path” like an agent, that is now anything but traditional.
A24 won a marathon bidding war for Olivia Wilde’s ‘The Invite’ following Sundance premiere. The darling of the festival leaving Utah was sold to A24 who beat out Focus Features, Netflix, Neon, Apple, Searchlight, Black Bear and a last minute Hail Mary by Warner Bros.’ new contemporary film label.
Former Paramount Global Co-CEO Brian Robbins launched ‘Big Shot Pictures’ animation studio after securing $100 million worth of investment backing from both CAA and Sony Pictures. In a shocking move (jk) they signed a first-look deal at Sony
The brat is bratting. Charli xcx’s film ‘The Moment’ became A24’s fastest selling limited-release after debuting at Sundance Film Festival.

🏊 Deeper Dive: As far as other BAFTA nominees, ‘Wicked: For Good’ was shut out of all main categories once again despite receiving 10 Oscar nominations last year, but Paul Mescal (‘Hamnet’) and Chase Infiniti (‘One Battle After Another’) both got nominated after being left out at the Oscars.
