🐝 Looping You In (5 Entertainment Industry Headlines That Actually Matter)

1) South Park creators reach a 5-year and $1.5 billion deal with Paramount+ for streaming rights for the show. This breaks down to roughly $300 million a year, and the deal includes all 26 seasons of their back catalog + 10 new episodes a year.

2) LinkedIn is now processing an absurd 11,000 applications per minute, +45% year to date. According to the The New York Times “…generative artificial intelligence tools are contributing to the deluge.” The system is clearly broken, and I’ve made it a priority to develop resources and tech (more info on that soon) that will help provide transparency to job seekers in Entertainment.

3) Snoop Dogg vs. Spotify Beef pt. 2? In February he said he was leaving the platform due to low payments (he eventually reversed that statement). Yesterday he just beat Spotify CEO Daniel Ek to the punch in purchasing a stake in Welsh soccer team Swansea City. Snoop joins celebrities like Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady who own parts of Wrexham and Birmingham City respectively, and all three teams are now competing in the same league this season. Get that popcorn ready. Netflix is foaming at the mouth.

4) The Los Angeles Times is set to go public in the next year. Why? To “allow the public to have ownership of this paper” and “to move away from ethics concerns” according to billionaire owner Patrick Soon-Shiong. Just a hunch, but this is not going to end well for the 143 year old publication who is facing declined readership, internal issues stemming from his decisions around the 2025 election, and a 20% layoff last year.

5) The Oscars submission site opens new pathway for a members only streaming service for the 2026 awards. This would make it easier for voters to actually watch the films now that it is required to do so (which is insane that it wasn’t already), and all studios need to do is pay a fee and sign some documents.
