🐝 The Weekly Buzz

1) Apple Music just opened their fresh LA studio celebrating their 10 year anniversary. The 15,000 square foot building includes a 4,000 square foot sound stage, podcast and audio recording rooms, social media labs, and more.

2) The state of Maine is going head to head with Live Nation over a new proposed 3,300 cap venue. Maine’s live event economy currently brings in $550 million per year from independent venues, promoters, and festivals, and the Portland City Council is seeking a moratorium to block Live Nation from having monopoly control. You don’t say..

3) Who actually pays the bag to Artists?

While Peloton reigns supreme, their stock doesn’t. They also just announced more job cuts and a pivot to “focus on members’ entire wellness journey.” How the mighty have fallen.

4) WME’s Global Co-Head of Music Kirk Sommer is being honored as the ‘International Music Person of the Year’ by MUSEXPO.

Personal note: Kirk was my boss at WME, and there is no one more deserving. His roster includes Billie Eilish, Adele, Sam Smith, Arctic Monkeys, Benson Boone, Kygo, The Killers and many, many more, but what stands out is his reputation and the way he treats people. He is one of the great ones, and our industry continues to recognize good people. It’s refreshing in a world and industry with so much negativity.
