Disney released their Q3 numbers, and streaming may not be as F&*#ed as previously thought.
Netflix continues their big bet on live sports, streaming the (re-scheduled) Mike Tyson & Jake Paul “fight” tonight. No one thinks that slap last night WASN’T scripted right? The most-watched fight since 2000 was the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao bout (4.6 million), and tonight’s fight is expected to shatter that figure, as it will be available in the homes of all 282 million Netflix subscribers worldwide.
Netflix’ ad-supported tier just hit 70 million MAUs (monthly active users), up from 40 million in May, fueled by their massive investment into live events.
Their first live streamed event (someone from Netflix call me out if I’m wrong here) was Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage last year, which was his first live comedy special since the infamous slap. It’s since drawn more than 23 million views to date.
They have also invested heavily the Tom Brady roast, Chestnut vs. Kobayashi hot dog eating competition, Netflix Cup (F1 & PGA Golfers competing in match-play), Netflix Slam (Nadal vs. Alcaraz) and the SAG Awards, which have seen varying levels of successful for the platform.
All eyes are on this certainly not scripted event tonight as well as their upcoming NFL Christmas Day games and WWE RAW events. Depending on how many of their 282 million subscribers tune in to those, we may be witnessing the future of the platform.
Jin of BTS is the latest Artist to announce an interactive hub on TikTok to promote his new solo album “Happy.” This follows similar partnership between the social giant and Artists like Coldplay, Taylor Sift, Billie Eilish and Post Malone.
Billboard announced their list of best music venues.
Wild number of the day: 100K songs are updated every day to streaming platforms according to Luminate.
