Academy members must now watch all nominated films in each category to be eligible to vote in the final round for the Oscars… which means they uhh weren’t doing that before? Sure that may have been ~common knowledge~ in the industry, but still an absurdity.

‘Sinners’ Cinematographer, Autumn Durald Arkapaw, is officially the first woman to shoot on large format IMAX film. IMAX film has been around since the 1970’s, and this was a long time coming. F-yea.

In related news, ‘Sinners’ officially debuted at $48 million in the top spot this week. The film beat out A Minecraft Movie, which still is performing very well with $40 million in its third week, and $700 million globally.

Regal is going full Chicken Jockey. A 10 second A Minecraft Movie scene featuring a chicken-riding zombie has somehow sparked a global popcorn-throwing, live-chicken-smuggling trend in theaters. Many have concluded the trend has help the film close in on the record for highest-grossing video game film ever. Regal is now leaning in with official “Chicken Jockey” screenings. With movie theaters clawing to bring in any revenue, and this is really no different than those Wicked sing-alongs (not sure which is more painful).

The 50th anniversary of the first ever ‘Star Wars’ film, AKA the massive Lucas Film Fan Convention, will be held in LA in 2027. Seems like everything major is coming to L.A. except on-premise film sets (read our break-down of that in last week’s edition).

Apple Music opened a new studio in Tokyo, Japan, the first in Asia and 7th globally. Their existing locations include New York, LA, Nashville, London, Berlin, and Paris. Notably, Japan has the second largest recorded music market globally.

If you work in Entertainment, go watch Seth Rogan’s The Studio. It’s hilarious, absurd, pretty triggering and classic Rogan. I sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to break down the characters and who (specific and broadly) the main characters represent in Hollywood.
