The Weekly Buzz:

Kendrick Lamar blew the world away during his Super Bowl Halftime performance on Sunday and layered in easter egg upon easter egg. It was the most watched halftime show ever at 133.5M and up +3% vs. Usher’s performance in 2024.

This year’s Super Bowl also carried the highest average viewership of all time at 126 million, and broke the record of 123.7 million viewers on CBS in 2024, and the previous year’s then-record of 115.1 million on Fox. It saw a peak at 135.7 million in the second quarter.

What about the most watched commercial? Booking.com won that prize for the 3rd consecutive year.

Ours favorite easter eggs below:

• The 1987 Buick GNX (a limited-edition version of the Buick Regal Grand National) he stood on was a nod to his birth year and his latest album titled GNX.

• Fans are split on the meaning of his $1.2m lower case “a” necklace featuring 515 diamonds: Either a nod to the very famous and very vocal lyric in “Not Like Us” or a reference to the creative company owned by Lamar and Dave Free, pgLang or "Program Language," which features a lower case
  "a” in their logo. Why not both!

• Kendrick brought out TWO of Drake’s execs (Serena & SZA who he dated briefly)

• Serena’s “crip walk” sparked controversy after her Gold Medal win against Maria Sharapova in the 2012 London Olympics at Wimbledon. On Sunday it was one of the defining moments.

• “WARNING WRONG WAY” was spelled out in the crowd, alluding to America headed in the wrong direction. LOTS of more political commentary that you can read into.

• Twitter user Alex Cole called out the fact that “America built on the backs of Black people... For those who didn't get the message. Kendrick is a true poet.”

• Each of the performance spaces were inspired by a PlayStation controller, with “GAME OVER” being spelled out in the crowd (with Drake presumably taking the
  “L”).

“Not Like Us” streams exploded by 430%, with Kendrick’s overall streams jumping 175%.

The bill requiring ‘all-in’ ticket pricing has made it’s way to the US Senate. If passed, all hidden fees and extra charges would be legally required to be shown as you’re purchasing tickets, and not just to be tacked on at the end. This is a massive step in the right direction.

In a time where staff cuts are rampant, UTA just promoted 114 across all division.

Chappell Roan turned a distasteful critique (get caught up in our IG comments), into a total of $75k+ donated towards artist healthcare. Shoutout our good friends at Backline!. Chappell’s rebuttal to the Hollywood Reporter has since inspired Noah Kahan and Charli xcx to match her $25k donation. The guest “writer” said to “put her money where her mouth is,” and he’s been real silent since she challenged him to do the same.

In related news, Ariana Grande shared that labels should include ‘non-negotiable’ therapy into contracts for young stars.

Ticketmaster has started cancelling tickets for the Oasis reunion tour that look like they were purchased by bots. In theory this is great, until several ticket holders had their purchases wrongly cancelled.

2024 was a record year for Women in film but representation for People of Color took a sharp decline (Variety)
