🎙️ Interview with Kristina London, Founder of Amplify Her Voice

AvA: How did the idea for Amplify Her Voice come about?

London: Amplify Her Voice came about very organically. I had been interning and working in music for a few years and encountered sexism in every corner of the space. Every woman I know has personal anecdotes about the issues they've faced and continue to face in a male dominated industry, but when you showcase the data behind the gender divide it really speaks volumes. I wanted to create a platform to make that information accessible while offering efficient solutions to break down the barriers to entry.

AvA: What are some key areas the company and/or vision has grown since you launched it?

London: Internally, myself and my team have grown so much over the last 4 years. As a DIY organization we've had to figure out almost everything by ourselves and we've developed really valuable skills and relationships by having that freedom to work through trial and error.

Externally, we've grown tremendously over the last four years. We've organically grown over 65,000 engaged followers, worked with some of our favorite artists and music businesses, produced a number of successful events, and we aren't slowing down anytime soon. Initially, we've remained a fully digital organization but this year we've made strides to step into IRL spaces, working with music festivals, artist tours, and live events.

AvA: Have partnerships been a key focus for you? Do you have any upcoming partnerships you are able to share?

London: Partnerships have been incredibly instrumental in our growth and development and we're so grateful to the artists and companies that have taken a chance on us. We most recently worked with Coachella and Stagecoach to source women and gender diverse creatives to work on their photo and video team. I consider partnerships like this some of our biggest wins because we're directly connecting women with really valuable, paid opportunities.

As far as upcoming partnerships, we'll be working with She Is The Music on curating and promoting their annual SITM Day, a day in NYC to empower the future of women in music through education, connection, and live music.

We have some exciting things in the works that we'll be rolling out a bit later in the year that we can't share just yet so stay tuned đź‘€

AvA: What are your future goals with Amplify Her Voice?

London: Our primary focus right now is to provide valuable, hands-on experiences to give a head start to the next generation of women in music and to create memorable live music experiences with an intersectional and inclusive approach. We decided at the end of last year that we will be transitioning from an online platform to a revenue generating business. We believe that for real change to happen, women need investment - not just verbal and virtual support.

đź“– For those of you interested in the touring side of the music business: This week’s book recommendation is for you. “The Music Never Stops” details the personal insight of legendary concert promoter Peter Shapiro, who is widely considered as the most impactful independent concert promoter since Bill Graham.
