The FBI has busted a “musician’s” elaborate AI-powered $10M streaming-royalty heist. Michael Smith, 52, allegedly used AI to create hundreds of thousands of fake songs by nonexistent bands, then streamed them using bots to collect royalties from platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. This is believed to be the first major lawsuit involving artificially music streaming, and he faces up to 40 years in prison.

Kendrick Lamar will headline the 2025 Super Bowl Half Time Show in New Orleans. Many have questioned why New Orleans’ own Lil Wayne wasn’t tapped for the spot, although it’s hard to argue with Kendrick’s catalog and stardom.
The Country Music Awards (CMAs) recently announced their nominations… and Beyoncé was a notable omission. Earlier this year she became the first Black woman to top Billboard's Hot Country Album chart (Cowboy Carter) and Hot Country Songs chart (Texas Hold ‘Em). Morgan Wallen led the pack with 7 nominations. One thing is for sure, the country renaissance remains as strong as ever.
YouTube has announced a new set of tools that will protect Artists and Creators. These tools will include “new synthetic-singing identification technology to identify AI content that simulates someone’s singing voice.”
Spotify dodges $40 million lawsuit with Kobalt Music Group over Eminem’s streaming royalties. Big win for the streaming giant. Read more here.
